Safari Adventure - Botswana

$39.95

Safari Adventure - Botswana is a safari hunting video filmed entirely on location in four different safari hunting camps in Botswana. A must see DVD for the African hunter. The outfitter was Swanapoel & Scandrol Safari's. The PH's were Doug Scandrol and Russell Tarr. This was a Big 4 Safari (no rhino since you can't shoot rhino in Botswana) where Brook Minx connected with not 1 but 2 elephant, one with a finishing shot charge and each jumbo was 60 pounds per tusk plus, scoring 146 & 152 in the world. The Kalahari lion was taken and finished at 15 feet with his charge. The leopard was finished with a charge at the truck. Two outstanding Cape buffalo were taken, 44+ inch spread, scoring No. 38 and No. 41 in the world respectively. The Cape Eland is No. 3 in the world and the Livingstone Eland is No. 10 in the world. Trophies also taken include are 3 kudu, 2 gemsbok, wildebeest (No. 29 in the world), red cape hartebeest (No. 29 in the world), steenbok and ostrich. 17 trophies in all taken in 28 days of action packed hunting.

The lion was sure enough shot and fell 10 feet from the truck. He was first shot 50 yards away center chest/ heart shot. Then he ran off. We chased in the back of a truck and found him 50 yards away between 2 bushes to make his final stand. When we drove up and confronted him at 10 yards he charged and we finished him in his charge. He fell 10 feet from the truck. If we missed we were lunch. Scary stuff.

The leopard was first confronted with the dogs having him bayed under a bush. I shot him under the bush at 10 yards from the truck with a shotgun (as all Kalahari leopard hunts are conducted) and then he exited the bush and charged/ came at the truck. He was finished as he ran by the left side at less then 10 feet. He mauled 5+ of the 9 dogs. He was a leopard they had hunted for 3 years on 3 different hunts. He was very smart and always gave them the slip but not this 4th time. We connected.

The elephant was first shot with a side brain shot at 15 yards. I missed the brain as I shot 2 inches too low but nonetheless the jumbo stumbled but then ran off 50 yards. We followed running, shooting at his rear-end and caught up with him as he faced away. He sensed us and immediately turned and took steps to charge when I banged him frontal brain twice. This stopped his charge immediately. It wasn't a charge where his ears were flared and he was coming for us for a first shot. This would have been more intense. I finished him with a side brain shot and he collapsed in an upright position.

I have listed the final ranking for the trophies taken. Some scored at the tip top like the Cape Eland is No. 3 in the world and the Livingstone Eland is No. 10 in the world. See below after the listing of species taken and at what location. We arrived into Tholo Safari Camp on June 24th and commenced hunting that afternoon (we chased a black wildebeest but couldn't catch up with him that afternoon late). Our last day hunting was July 23rd. The afternoon of July 23rd we left for Kasane to overnight and then departed around 1:00PM for Vic Falls to start the long journey home to Houston, Texas.
